I feel like we learn to read people's aggression (or we can literally pick up on it) behind their mental attacks, like when they call us a jerk or an idiot, and it's innate to physiologically respond to aggression coming at us. But either way, don't we have an innate drive to respond to sociological threats that can affect our social standing and inclusion?

Great question! Thank you!

When you are physically attacked, it is unavoidable to respond physically ... because this is about physical survival. When you are mentally attacked, you have a choice to respond or not respond.

A mental attack can trigger your own latent aggression - or a program ... and make you fight back - mentally or physically. When you have experience in observing yourself, which would be ideal, you recognize what the mental attack does to you ... and you realize that the mental attack is NOT life threatening ... and then you have a choice to do what is wise/best.
